The PokerStars Sunday Million

PokerStars.com claims to be the world’s largest online poker site and has as its brand ambassador Daniel Negreanu, who is one of the legends of poker. It definitely hosts some of the biggest prize pool online poker tournaments on the Internet. The biggest of these is the PokerStars Sunday Million.

Actually the “Sunday Million” is a misnomer now. When this online poker tournament was launched way back in March 2006 the guaranteed prize pool was $1 million. Since then the prize pool has been enhanced to $1.5 million but the name of Sunday Million was carried forward. $1.5 million is only the prize money guaranteed by the PokerStars online poker site. If the participants are more and a larger amount is collected as a total of the buy-ins then the prize pool can be even larger. The largest ever prize pool for the PokerStars Sunday Million was over $7.2 million on February 21, 2010, just a year ago.

The PokerStars Sunday Million is held every Sunday at 16.30 hours Eastern Time. It is played in a poker format called No Limit Hold’em. Though a large number of players share the prize pool, the first prize is usually $240,000 and often even more. The easiest way to participate in the PokerStars Sunday Million is to locate the tournament at the PokerStars gambling site and register by paying the buy-in of $215.

However, if players do not want to spend that much they can enter for less through a number of qualifier poker tournaments. They then have to win those to get a free seat to the PokerStars Sunday Million. Qualifying tournaments, or satellites as they are called at online poker sites, run throughout the week. These start from as low as $2.20. In some satellites players do not have to pay a cash buy in but can redeem player reward points earned at the PokerStars online poker site.

Sundays are event filled days at the PokerStars online poker site. There are a number of other online poker tournaments as well. These include Sunday Warm-Up, DNG Sunday Special, Sunday ¼ Million, Sunday 500 and Sunday Second Chance.
